Disney fans rejoice, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is getting a live action remake

Dust off those rusty bells, people, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is returning to screens with a live action remake.
Does that just put a spring in your step, or, for Quasimodo, a bend in his back?
In the age of live action remakes – oh hey Aladdin, Beauty And The Best we see you – it perhaps comes of no real surprise another one will be hitting our senses before we know it, after Hunchie was confirmed by People this week.
It’s been reported the film will be produced by Mandeville Films and Frozen‘s Josh Gad.
He was also in Beauty And The Beast and Frozen, so you know the dude loves his Disney remakes. If he can sprinkle some of that Gad goodness we suppose Hunchback will also be a hit.

The actor took to social media yesterday in a massive teaser of his involvement, writing the lyrics to one of the songs alongside a shot of him at the actual Notre Dame in Paris.
Sing the bells, bells, bells
Bells, bells, bells, bells, bells…
The original film made $325million (£252million) at the box office back in its day, which is a lot of bells. Can a modern remake have the same impact? We’re going to err on the side of yes.
, Alan Menken, who created the original score of the animated film we still hold pretty dear to our beings, and Stephen Schwartz will compose the tunes, while Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang is attached to pen the script.
No word yet on who might be taking to the tower to play the feared Hunchback, or who might take on the role of Esmerelda, but we could name a few we’d love to see.
Maybe Josh Gad will put his hand up? For Hunchback, not Essie, that is.
It’s been said the latest version will take inspiration from the 1996 animated film, as well as Victor Hugo’s OG novel that first brought us the tale in 1831.
Back in the 90s, Tom Hulce voiced Quasimodo, while Demi Moore was Esmeralda. Then we had Tony Jay as Claude Frollo, Kevin Kline as Phoebus and Jason Alexander as the gargoyle Hugo.

Between this latest remake Disney also have their fingers in a whole range of reimaginings of already-told classics, from Mary Poppins Returns to The Lion King and Aladdin.
Seems they’ve found a formula for box office gold and they’re sticking to it.
